BriskPic: Crowdsourcing Done Right

Pepsi is teaming up with Instagram to crowdsource new limited-edition can designs for their Brisk brand. By tagging pictures with #briskpic in their Instagram app, users will enter their image into the contest and be featured on BriskPic.com.

The can design winner will be announced at South by Southwest 2011 in Austin, Texas in March.  Frank Gruber over at Tech Cocktail interviewed PepsiCo’s Jamal Henderson in NYC at the Brisk25 Summit (I know, how did we miss that?) for the inside scoop:

I think it’s a good execution - giving users a chance to be a part of the brand is nice, but attaching it to a popular platform that people are already playing on and expressing themselves is what raises the level of participation for me.

Tropical Beer: The world’s largest beach towel

From our friends in Leo Burnett Iberia comes the Guinness-record-setting world’s largest beach towel.

But what’s really interesting to me is the integration between social media and the event. Facebook is used to ‘take your reservation’ for a space on the towel, and spread the word about the event.  The event itself is a great celebration of beach culture and extends and expands the emotional content.  Well done!

McDonalds on Farmville

Yesterday McDonald’s debuted in FarmVille, the popular Facebook social game with its own farm - giving  players the chance to play with the Brand and win prizes.

The program was created by appssavvy and OMD, and includes a McDonald’s Farm where players grow tomato and mustard seed crops and can earn prizes.

I’m surprised that more brands haven’t worked with Zynga.

Lunchables’ Alien Field Trip

Interesting 3-minute video from Kraft Lunchables:

I think it’s a good use of online video (the length is just right for a nice solid snack, even though it was apparently designed as a cinema commercial), and an interesting way to drive to their Field Trips For All promotion.  But should they have lied to those kids?  :)

NikeGrid

Cool use of location-based interactivity and digital experience by Nike.

It does seem funny not to use FourSquare or something like it, but at least you don’t have to take your phone with you when you go running.

A very cheesy promotion

Cheetos is running a funny promotion through rich media ads and on their microsite - the Cheetos Lookalike Analyzer.

They give these incredibly detailed (and very tongue-in-cheek) directions for taking part in this analysis of your cheeto - asking you to tape it to a white piece of paper and then take a picture and upload it for the analysis.

And then they analyze the photo to determine what real-world thing the cheeto looks like.

Like the Venus de Milo for my upload.  Of course I couldn’t let it end there, so I uploaded my picture of a cheeto that bears a striking resemblance to the Köln Dom, like so:

Wouldn’t you know it, they had a match!  (Albeit with a relatively low match rate - kudos to their tech team.)

Who thought this was ‘On Brand’?

Red Cliffe Sauvignon Blanc offers a head-scratcher of an on-pack promotion, with a free pedometer with purchase.

Who thought this was On Brand?

Really?  Is this the wine for fitness freaks?
