Nike Patent For “Back To The Future II” Shoes

For those fans of the movie you already know what kind of shoes are those, for those not so big fans of the film, the called Nike Air Mag “Marty McFly” are shoes with an automatic lacing system or “power laces” (like the film says).
For those non-believers, check the World Intellectual Property Organization’s website and see it by yourself. For those who can’t wait to put your hands (or properly speaking, your feet) in one of these, there are no announcements yet if they are even going to hit the market any time soon, but as some predictions made in the film have become reality (check out this list) having a pair of Nikes with “power laces” will be soon a reality.

Trivia: For those who know or not know; the film occurs during the year 2015 and as all the other predictions have happened before that year, we may only have to wait at much 4 more years.

The Social Networking Map

The site Flowtown just published on its blog a cartographic representation of the social networks. The size of the territory is determined by the estimated amount of members of that network. Of course the biggest “country” is Facebook with its 500 declared users and is only second to the mighty “Empire of Google”.

It is very interesting (and funny) to see internet represented in such way. With quite unusual landmarks this map gives an ironic and somehow true insight of the online actuality. Among the best parts are the “Google’s Information Gathering Posts” disseminated all over the map, the “United Territories of Wikimedia”, the “Isles of Apps”, the “YouTube Triangle of Viral Videos”, the island of Adult Friendfinder lying in the “Sea of Desperation” and the “Former Kingdom of MySpace”.

Click on the map for a LARGER image.

Levi’s Walks Across America

This is by far, one of the most impressive and amazing videos I have seen in a long time. Not only for what is shown, but for its concept: one guy, walks across America, from New York to San Francisco wearing blue jeans (Levi’s obviously) and I guess the t-shirts were also from the same brand.
Where is the “amazing” part? Well, the whole video is made in stop-motion.

That’s right; the video consists of 2770 pictures and is 1:53 minutes long. If we do the math, that’s 113 seconds, which makes 24.5 photos per second. Just as any given animation. The procedure and technical aspects are explained in the behind the scenes video and the complexity of the project is much more of what one may have thought, since it is not clay or computer animated.

Another aspect of the commercial is that there are almost no references to the brand and at least I was able to find only three. One is made at the end with a close up to the jeans where the Levi’s tag appears (next to a “to walk” list), which is the more obvious one. The other two (or maybe more) are “hidden” along the video, which make them much more difficult to find since there are 24 pictures every second.

The team of Conscious Minds was in charge of the production of the video and they used a Canon EOS-5D Mark II for all the shots.  Anyway, it is a great video. Enjoy!

You know Scientists get desperate when…

… they use a social networking phenomenon to say that aliens are contacting us.

Granted, Mail online isn’t exactly known for Pulitzer material, but still:

While any ‘lost in space’ messages wouldn’t exactly be restricted to 140 characters, as on the website, a study suggests ET is more likely to send out short, directed messages than continuous signals beamed in all directions.

The reason?

Because alien civilisations are likely to strive to limit waste and make their signalling technology efficient.

Thank god for Twitter. We have finally found a medium for aliens!

The Old Spice Guy Responds to You

I’m loving the video responses from the Old Spice guy.  You can take a look at the commercials here but the one below is actually a response to a tweeted request -  a guy asked the brand icon to help him propose to his girlfriend.

The Old Spice Guy answers tweets to the Brand’s Twitter account with custom videos - a nice use of engaging media for entertaining and extending your brand.  And it helps that media outlets are LOVING this campaign.

Check out all his custom videos here.

Virtual Furniture Theft: Still farcical but for how long?

It still sounds funny when someones steals someone’s virtual furniture. It also makes a good read for lunch break. Nevertheless, as more and more of our assets move into the digital domain, it becomes a real economic factor.

Check out this BBC Article on the recent Habbo Hotel theft.

Spotted on Todd’s FB stream.

The making of Old Spice’s: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like

Perhaps you have already seen this ad, since it went viral a couple of months ago, but have you ever wondered how was it made? This 30 seconds ad was recently honored in the category “Advertising Excellence/Single Commercial” at the 19th Annual AICP Show, The Art & Technique of the American Commercial, presented by the Association of Independent Commercial Producers ( www.aicpshow.com ).

The video is a bit long, but definitely worth watching.

Available outside the US at last …

… the iPad. Unfortunately, it does not shred all that well:

(Most) anything else: we can make an app for that.
