Designing imperfection

Woody Allens said “If you’re not failing every now and again, it’s a sign you’re not doing anything very innovative.” Well, the next time your computer crashes, it might be worth to take closer look. Sometimes things you didn’t do on purpose reveal their beauty on second glance. I just ordered Designing Imperfection.

Playstation 1 anyone ?

This is the 2nd time I noticed that argumented reality has been applied to a commercial website. It still gives a half baked impression as it is right now; you have to download special software to be able to use it. The look… well last time I saw comparable stuff was back in the nineties on my PS1. I still think this technology got a lot to offer cause it allows to interact with the user in a direct and intuitive way. Let’s see what comes next..

Nadav Kander’s flash portfolio

Painter, grafic designer or photographer, it doesn’t matter what you’re creating - art likes to be seen. Finding the perfect way to present your work can take longer than creating it. You’re just longing for the perfect way. I still think a white wall or a plain white html page is the best in most of the cases.
I’m browsing through a lot of portfolios every month and I’m really starting to dislike flash portfolios. There are good approaches around, but the larger number is just not user friendly at all. Just like the portfolio of Nadav Kander. However, I’m admiring his pictures. And at the end that’s what counts - the art.nadav1 Nadav Kanders flash portfolio

Long live the DCC!

I have something to admit: I love the industrial design of the later eighties. The shapes, the colors, everything. But there is one thing that stands out in terms of variety, and it’s a beauty. The Digital Compact Cassette. I’m glad that tapedeck.org shares my passion and they got them all.

By the way, if you’re already looking for christmas gifts, I recommand this, that and this.

 Long live the DCC!

Carpe noctem

The latest project of the photographer Brooks Reynolds is called we are all sleeping giants. Strong images, if you like nightswimming, loneliness and Stephen King, don’t miss it.

MTV?

If you watched MTV lately you might have noticed that there’s not much left at all that justifies the name Music Television. So if your looking for alternatives, here is my suggestion: tape.tv MTV?
This website gives you music videos in good quality the whole day, just like in the good old days. Lovely.

Processing

Processing is an open source programming language and environment. It’s used more and more often these days, in many different manners. The good thing about: most of it looks stunning.
Processing is actually known for beeing easy to understand. Well, I downloaded it and unfortunately that doesn’t apply for me. Smart people did these examples:

Hope Gangloff

A time ago I asked Hope Gangloff to send me a hi-res scan of one of her paintings. She was very polite and promised to send it through. I still got a huge white wall in my living room so obviously she didn’t. However, she’s still one of my favourite artists and her work is just too good to be mad at her. You got a couple of days left to visit her exhibition at the Richard Heller Gallery in LA. So if you make it, please bring my scan.bild-2 Hope Gangloff
